J Street to Democrats: Back Resolution Supporting Gaza War or Lose Endorsement

Published Wed, 05 Mar 2025 18:43:34 GMT

On Tuesday, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Michael McCaul, R-Texas, and Ranking Member Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., introduced a resolution pledging Congress would stand “with Israel as it defends itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas and other terrorists.” Nearly every member of Congress announced their support for the resolution — with the exception of 13 Democrats. The resolution, however, does not mention Palestinian civilians, who face an ongoing siege of medieval proportions — with Israeli forces cutting off access to food, water, and electricity — and calls for further restricting and scrutinizing imports because of Hamas’s use of bulldozers and other rudimentary equipment to break down the border fence with Israel. The lack of any attempt in the resolution to urge Israel to avoid civilian casualties, as the Palestinian territory stares down an apocalyptic and ongoing massacre, has led to a small pocket of resistance to the resolution among a handful of ...

Why it’s cheaper to repair your appliances instead of buying new ones

Published Wed, 05 Mar 2025 18:43:34 GMT

You may be in the market for new appliances. But experts said if they’re in good working order, why spend the money? They said you should try to repair them first.“The reason is … most appliances, if it’s a small problem, can be fixed for less than $200,” said Kevin Brasler, executive editor of Consumers’ Checkbook. He added that repairing an appliance could save you money in the long run.“Usually, most homeowners — we’re happy with what we have. It works well for us. We’re happy with the features.” Brasler said. “And most importantly, if the unit’s been reliable already for five to eight years or more, there’s no reason to think that it won’t continue to work reliably for many more years to come.”Brasler added that new appliances come with a hefty price tag.“I mean, new refrigerators often cost more than $2,000,” he said. But what if you discover those appliances are beyond repair?...

49ers’ Purdy puts his perfect start on the line in a road game against Browns’ top-rated defense

Published Wed, 05 Mar 2025 18:43:34 GMT

CLEVELAND (AP) — Brock Purdy has been labeled a game manager and system quarterback. He has been described as robotic, savvy and consistent. Most famously, he has been called Mr. Irrelevant. However, there’s one word that perhaps best sums up the startling start to his professional career: Perfect. In less than two seasons, San Francisco’s 23-year-old QB has risen from being the final pick in the NFL draft (hence Mr. Irrelevant) to being in the conversation as one of the early frontrunners for MVP this season.Going into Sunday’s game against Cleveland’s top-ranked defense, Purdy leads the league in passer rating (123.1) while completing 72.1% of his passes. He has thrown nine touchdown passes, zero interceptions and allowed fans in the Bay Area to turn the page on Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance. And in case anyone was still wondering if his start was a flash or fluke, Purdy threw four TD passes last week as the 49ers (5-0) demolished Dallas 42-10 on national TV ...

JERUSALEM (AP) — Palestinians fled in a mass exodus Friday from northern Gaza after Israel’s military told some 1 million people to evacuate to the southern part of the besieged territory ahead of an expected ground invasion in retaliation for the surprise attack by the ruling Hamas militant group. The U.N. warned that evacuating almost half of crowded Gaza's population would be calamitous, and it urged Israel to reverse the unprecedented directive. As airstrikes hammered the territory throughout the day, families in cars, trucks and donkey carts packed with possessions streamed down a main road out of Gaza City. Denver man’s family members taken hostage by Hamas Hamas’ media office said warplanes struck cars fleeing south, killing more than 70 people. The Israeli military said its troops conducted temporary raids into Gaza to battle militants and hunted for traces of some 150 people abducted in Hamas's assault on Israel nearly a week ago.In urging the evacuation, Israel’s military...
