NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Yankees extended a losing streak to eight for the first time since 1995, allowing Justin Turner’s ninth-inning, go-ahead double after a key overturned call in a 6-5 defeat to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.New York appeared to go ahead in eighth when Isiah Kiner-Falefa scored from first on rookie Anthony Volpe’s single. Plate umpire Junior Valentine signaled safe, ruling Kiner-Falefa’s left foot got in ahead of Connor Wong’s tag, but the call was reversed in a video review, which also upheld that the catcher did not block the plate in violation of rules. Swept in consecutive series by Atlanta and Boston, the Yankees have lost eight straight for the first time since Aug. 19-26, 1995. New York (60-64), in danger of ending its streak of 30 consecutive winning seasons, is 24-39 since June 4. The Yanke began Sunday trailing Seattle by eight games for the AL’s last wild card.Turner had four RBIs for Boston, which is 8-1 against the Yankees this...Crews rescue man who fell in trench at construction site in SW Miami-Dade

NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Donald Trump confirmed Sunday that he will be skipping Wednesday’s first Republican presidential primary debate — and others as well.“The public knows who I am & what a successful Presidency I had,” Trump wrote on his social media site. “I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!” His spokesman did not immediately clarify whether he plans to boycott every primary debate or just those that have currently been scheduled. The former president and early GOP frontrunner had said for months that he saw little upside in joining his GOP rivals on stage when they gather for the first time in Milwaukee Wednesday, given his commanding lead in the race. And he had made clear to those he had spoken to in recent days that his opinion had not changed.“Why would I allow people at 1 or 2% and 0% to be hitting me with questions all night?” he said in an interview in June with Fox News host Bret Baier, who will be serving as a moderator. What qualities must a restaurant have to be deemed “legendary?”For Taste Atlas, a website with reviews of thousands of restaurants and “global flavors,” the legendary eateries are ones “that have remained relevant and highly regarded in an ever-changing culinary landscape.”Union Oyster House, the longstanding Boston restaurant, was named by Taste Atlas as the 43rd most legendary establishment globally. That’s out of the group’s list of 150. The restaurant’s storied past, owner Joe Milano told the Herald, plays a vital role in its legendary status.“I’m speechless,” Milano said about the top 50 ranking. “I think it’s wonderful and I know we’re iconic…One thing I would also say is that we are the only restaurant that is a national historic landmark.”The eatery, formally established in 1826, is the oldest restaurant with continuous service in the United States. SAN DIEGO — Deadly floodwaters inundated streets across Mexico’s arid Baja California on Sunday as Tropical Storm Hilary moved ashore carrying torrential rain into Southern California, and concerns mounted that flash floods could strike in places as far north as Idaho that rarely get such heavy rain.Forecasters said Hilary was the first tropical storm to hit Southern California in 84 years, bringing the potential for flash floods, mudslides, isolated tornadoes, high winds and power outages.Hilary made landfall along the Mexican coast in a sparsely populated area about 150 miles south of Ensenada, on a path to hit mudslide-prone Tijuana Sunday evening, threatening the improvised homes that cling to hillsides just south of the U.S. border. At least 9 million people were under flash-flood warnings as heavy rain fell across normally sunny Southern California ahead of the brunt of the storm. Desert areas were especially susceptible along with hillsides with wildfire burn scars, fore...Latest news
