Emeryville fatal shooting victim identified EMERYVILLE — A man fatally shot here May 26 was identified by police Tuesday as Dexter Appleby, 34, of Oakland.He was found with multiple gunshot wounds about about 11:38 p.m. May 26 at the intersection of 41st Street and San Pablo Avenue, near the Oaks Card Club. He was pronounced dead at the scene.Police so far have not said why they believe Appleby was in Emeryville.A motive for the killing has not been determined yet. Famed musician’s former beach property on San Mateo coast to become new public park For years, a mile-long stretch of sand on the rural San Mateo County coast was known for loud late night parties that left behind huge piles of litter.On Tuesday, the stunning property, which was once owned by rock singer Chris Isaak, moved a big step closer to becoming a new public park — the first of its kind in more than 50 years.The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 to approve an $11.6 million construction contract to build parking, trails, a ranger station, restrooms, interpretive signs and other amenities at Tunitas Creek Beach.Construction is set to begin by July. American Canyon giving away gun locks with 'no questions asked' (KRON) -- Police in one Napa County city are giving away free gun locks to any resident who wants one with "no questions asked." The American Canyon City Council passed a Safe Firearms Storage Ordinance last month requiring all gun owners to store firearms at home in a locked container, or disable firearms with an appropriate safety device.Guns can end up in the wrong hands, including the hands of young children, home burglars, or a suicidal person, police cautioned. "Keeping a firearm locked when it is not being carried prevents unauthorized users, including children, from accessing and using firearms which can reduce unintentional discharges, firearm theft, and suicide," the American Canyon Police Department wrote. ACPD launched its Free Gun Lock Giveaway initiative Monday to help improve firearm safety within neighborhoods. Man in stolen vehicle arrested after standoff with American Canyon police (KRON) -- A man was arrested on suspicion of breaking into a woman's home before stealing her car on Tuesday morning, according to American Canyon Police. Police investigating overnight homicide in Tenderloin A victim called police just after 8 a.m. and reported that when she woke up, she noticed her house had been broken into and her front door was wide open. As she looked around the house, she also realized that someone had taken her car keys and her 2023 Nissan Pathfinder which was parked outside. The Nissan was equipped with a GPS tracker, which showed the car was in American Canyon. Officers found the vehicle with a man inside in the back lot of the Holy Family Parish Church on Antonina Drive. The suspect was later identified as Rodney Scott, 58, of Vallejo.Scott then allegedly attempted to drive away when he spotted the officers, and backed into an ACP patrol car as he tried to flee.
