If lung cancer is caught before it spreads, the five-year survival rate can be as high as 92%. So why aren’t more smokers – past and present – taking advantage of an effective diagnostic tool? Doctors who treat lung cancer are seeking to ensure that they do.But for Linda Swieboda, it was a diagnosis and – and a test – she wanted to avoid. “(I was) walking, active. I didn’t have any shortness of breath. No cough. I had no symptoms, but I went for the screening and poof, there it was,” Swieboda said. Doctors found an early-stage tumor, nearly three centimeters in size, in Swieboda, a smoker for 50 years.“The past two years, my primary care physician had brought it up, but I thought, Nah, I don’t want to know,” she said. “ I kind of feared it.” More Coverage: WGN's Medical Watch It’s just one challenge doctors hope to overcome regarding lung cancer screening. “The patients do not know that it does exist,” said Dr. Alex Cedeno. Vikings quarterback Josh Dobbs maintains that he shouldn’t have fumbled against the Broncos in Sunday night’s game in Denver. He routinely refers to the ball as the dreams, hopes and aspirations of the organization. And because of that, he understands the importance of limiting turnovers. That said, Dobbs had some thoughts when asked about Broncos safety Kareem Jackson getting suspended four games for an illegal tackle that went uncalled in real time.“Obviously the NFL deemed it a hit to suspend the guy for several games,” Dobbs said. “I would have liked to see the flag thrown on the play if it was that type of hit.”The sequence happened early in the primetime game. After the Vikings opted for some trickery, with tight end T.J. Hockenson taking a snap under center and pitching to Dobbs in the backfield, Jackson raced in and lowered his head as he braced for contact with Dobbs. It’s pretty clear looking at the replay that Dobbs fumbled at least partially because Jackson hit...Movie review: Joaquin Phoenix meets his Waterloo in ‘Napoleon’

Michael Phillips | Chicago TribuneThe literal French definition of “tour de force,” an admiring noun that gets thrown around a lot in English, translates as “feat of strength.”Therefore I don’t get it. I don’t get why Joaquin Phoenix’s take on Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of France and frequent film subject, might inspire anyone to characterize the results as a tour de anything, except a feat of sustained, occasionally droll indecision. The same goes for director Ridley Scott’s middling epic “Napoleon.” “Middling” and “epic” are not words you want to see together, but there you are. Napoleon was many things, and with this dutiful career highlights reel, Phoenix and his director deliver glancing blows to as many aspects of the warrior-tyrant-genius-fool-lonely heart as cinematically possible in two and a half hours.Scott’s plan for the eventual Apple TV+ airing of “Napoleon” will restore 90 minutes and likely a battle or three. Will it make for a better experience? Probably. Scott has ...Latest news
